After my father passed away, I began to see
with an increasing awareness how important
the need to remember any and all details of
someone who is no longer in your life.

It came to me one day as a droned on about
nothing in particular watching my boyfriend eat
a bowl of cereal. Politely nodding his head at
the appropriate time, but unaware of the
meaningless daily jargon coming from my lips.
I saw my whole life through his eyes.

I began to think, would he listen harder if I was
no longer there? Would he attempt to hold me
tighter or smell my hair longer if he knew it was
the last time. In honor of my father's life and
how he touches us even after death, I chose to
embrace this feeling of want and need that is
unique to us all yet innately the same.
